Lawmakers criticise government; urge to call back decision
Lawmakers have criticized the government for nominating ambassadors without consulting Maoists and urged the government to take back the decision.
Speaking at the special hour of Tuesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, lawmakers criticized the government for nominating some persons who stood against the pro-democracy movement of the country for the post of Ambassadors.
UML lawmaker Pradip Nepal said that the government breached all agreements reached between the government and the Maoists by nominating ambassadors unilaterally.
The nomination of Sailaja Acharya, who stood against the pro-democracy movement of the country, is against the people’s aspiration expressed during the April movement, Nepal said.
Similarly, lawmaker of People’s Front Nepal, Lila Mani Pokhrel, said that the government nominated ambassadors by holding a special cabinet meeting without even informing the ministers about the agendas of the meeting, which is a conspiracy to protect monarchy.
He also warned that the government would be responsible for any untoward incidents if the government did not revoke its decision and make all appointments through consensus among all.
Other lawmakers also expressed concern that the recent nominations without consent of the Maoists may affect the peace process and urged the government to move as per previous agreement reached with them.
Monday’s special meeting of the cabinet nominated 14 Ambassadors and also appointed the Chief of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
The Maoists called a valley bandh (shut down) for six hours and chhaka jam (traffic movement halt) across the country protesting the decision of the government to nominate ambassadors and chief of the NHRC. nepalnews.com pb Dec 19 06
