EIDHR to provide assistance for Democracy and Human Rights

The European Commission (EC) has decided to provide NRs 34,500,000 for micro projects in Nepal for Nepali non-governmental organizations to be funded through the European Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR)

A press release issued by the EC said the amount will be given to the Nepalese NGOs to implement small (micro) projects.

According to EC, under the assistance, the EIDHR funding will cover two priority areas of “fostering a culture of human rights” and “advancing equality, tolerance and peace” for which Rs 2,30,00,000 and 1,15,00,000 has been allocated respectively.

“Applicants may apply individually or as part of a consortium for a project with 6-24 months periods and requesting Commission contribution between 50-90% of the total project costs," the release said.

Since Nepal became a focus country for EIDHR support in 2001, the European Commission has funded 26 EIDHR micro projects in Nepal. The projects have been implemented in 35 districts across the country. nepalnews.com pb Dec 22 06
