NSU to hold its general convention in March

The Nepal Students Union (NSU) – affiliated with Nepali Congress (NC) – is going to hold its tenth general convention in Janakpur from March 9 to 11.

The meeting of the central committee of the NSU decided to hold the general convention in March by completing regional level conventions by February 8. Last year, the union's tenth convention was cancelled at the eleventh hour due to clash among the students.

At a press meet organized on Saturday, the NSU president Mahendra Sharma said the general convention will be held smoothly.

The NSU has also urged the government to appoint vice chancellors in universities to end the uncertainties in education sector.

The NSU has condemned the behaviour of Maoist-affiliated student union, which it said was using armed guerrillas to subdue other students. It has demanded independent investigation on attacks by Maoist guerrillas against students in Public Youth Campus, Kathmandu, Rampur Agriculture Campus, Grameen Adarsha Nepaltar and Nilkantha campus Dhading.

Meanwhile, Sharma has appealed to international community to provide Nobel Peace Prize to the president of NC and prime minister Girija Prasad Koirala.
