ANNFSU padlocks offices of four universities
The All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU), the student wing the CPN (UML), locked the administrative offices of four public universities on Sunday to protest the delay in appointing high officials including vice-chancellors.
The students locked the administrative office of Tribhuvan University in Kirtipur and Purwanchal University’s contact office at Naya Baneshwor, Kathmandu, in the afternoon. Similarly, ANNFSU activists placed locks on the offices of Pokhara University in Pokhara and Nepal Sanskrit University in Dang today.
The ANNFSU, which organised a protest programme in Kathmandu on Thursday, has announced that the locks would not be removed unless the government appoints senior officials to end the mismanagement in the universities.
UML’s Dr Mandal Siddhi Manandhar looks after the education portfolio in the seven-party cabinet. He has been claiming that Prime Minister GP Koirala is not showing interest in filling the vacant posts in the universities.
Long delay in appointing senior officials has led to postponement of regular examinations, convocations and many other managerial works in these universities. nepalnews.com Dec 24 06
