Govt. to mobilize local staffs for CA polls

The government has decided to make temporary arrangements for the vacant posts of village development committee (VDC) secretaries for the purpose of elections of the constituent assembly.

Ministry of General Administration (MoGA) has decided to transfer or shift local level staffs to the posts of secretaries with special assignments to carry out responsibilities for the upcoming CA polls.

The MoGA has delegated authority to Chief District Officer to transfer or send district level officials with special assignment in the respective districts in this regard, reports quoted Yuva Raj Pandey, secretary at MoGA as saying.

Since there is no possibility of recruiting permanent staffs for the vacant posts by following Public Service Commission procedures in absence of a necessary Act, the ministry has decided to mobilize existing staffs from the respective districts, he added.

He further informed that the ministry will start sending letters to the concerned CDOs from Monday through the Home Ministry delegating such authority.

According to the Election Commission (EC), over 350 VDCs and 36 district election offices are vacant at present. In order to carry out re-registration and update the voters' name list, the EC needs secretaries at the VDCs. However, the Maoists are barring VDC secretaries from returning to their villages in various parts of the countries. nepalnews.com pb Dec 25 06
