Students organise protest programme against delay in appointments at universities

Students affiliated to CPN-UML, the second largest party of the coalition government, organized protest programmes in all campuses across the country demanding immediate fulfillment of their demands.

The All Nepal National Free Student Union (ANNFSU) has been organizing protest programmes demanding immediate appointment of top officials at various universities and other educational demands.

Some traffic movement in the valley was partially affected in the morning due to the protest meeting organized by students.

There was a clash between students and police in front of Amrit Science Campus, Lainchour while students were organizing a protest meeting. One student was hurt in the incident.

Irate students torched a motorcycle belonging to a government office protesting the police interference in their programme.

The students padlocked the office of vice chancellor of Tribhuvan University, Nepal Sanskrit University, Purvanchal University and Pokhara University from Sunday protesting the government’s passivity to appoint top officials at the Universities.

Delay in appointments of vice chancellors and other top officials of universities had affected the education sector of the country.

Meanwhile, Minister for Education and Sports, Mangal Siddhi Manandhar has said that there was delay in appointments due to Prime Minister and Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, Girija Prasad Koirala.

He said that he had already recommended names for top officials of the Universities, adding, “I can do nothing for the appointment unless Prime Minister take initiation for the appointments.”

Students took to the streets to pressurise the government for appointing top officials at Universities as these posts remained vacant for months after officials appointed during the royal rule resigned from their posts. nepalnews.com pb Dec 25 06
