Medical professionals protest attack

Medical professionals in Kanti Children's Hospital, Bir Hospital, TU Teaching Hospital and Orthopedic Hospital closed all services excluding emergencies on Tuesday to protest the attack on doctors of Kanti Hospital following the death of an eight-month-old child.

On Monday, the relatives of the deceased child from Bhaktapur attacked the doctors accusing that the death of the child was due to their carelessness. One doctor has been seriously injured in the attack. The child died on Sunday.

Hundreds of patients remain in lurch after the closure of the services.

Police have taken relatives of the child, Sharan Gurung, Rajesh Dahal and Madhusudhan Gurung, under control for their involvement in the attack.

Medical professionals have demanded security and warned to shut even emergency services if the assailants are not punished. nepalnews.com ia Dec 26 06
