Curfew still on, senior leaders of eight parties to visit Nepalgunj
Even though the incidents of violence and rioting have subsided, the local administration has still clamped curfew in Nepalgunj city area for the third day on Thursday.
Reports from Nepalgunj say that the administration could relax the curfew hours given the gradual improvement in the situation of law and order.
The state-owned Radio Nepal reported that apart from scattered incidents of disturbance in different parts of the city, the situation is returning to normal.
Police forces have been brought in from neighboring Dang and Surkhet districts to reinforce Nepalgunj security. This morning, too, the Maoists are planning to lead another goodwill rally to emphasize communal harmony.
Meanwhile, a team of senior leaders of eight political parties are expected to visit Nepalgunj today. The team to be led by Nepali Congress (NC) vice president Sushil Koirala could also include Maoist spokesperson Krishna Mahara. The leaders will make their efforts to accelerate Nepalgunj's return to normalcy.
Since Tuesday, Nepalgunj city has witnessed incidents of violence, looting and arson. The violence erupted a day after Nepal Sadbhavana Party (NSP-Anandidevi) imposed Terai bandh on Monday when bandh organizers reportedly used force to shut down shops and transport system. nepalnews.com sd Dec 28 06
