ANNFSU announces second phase of protest demanding appointments in Universities

The All Nepal National Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU), student wing of second largest party of the coalition government CPN-UML has announced second phase of the protest programmes demanding the immediate appointment of vice-chancellors and other key posts in four universities.

A meeting of ANNFSU held on Friday announced programmes for the next three days.

They announced to organise a sit-in programme in front of Singha Durbar on December 31, registering an application seeking immediate appointment of VCs in the parliament on January 1 and to submit a memorandum to MPs on January 2.

The ANNFSU will announce more protest programme on January 2.

The ANNFSU completed its first phase of protest programme on Thursday, demanding immediate fulfillment of vacant posts at various universities.

The key posts of four universities of the country, Tribhuvan University, Nepal Sanskrit University, Purvanchal University and Pokhara University remained vacant for months after the top officials of the universities appointed during the royal rule resigned from their posts following the success of April movement.

The Education minister has been alleging that the passivity of Prime Minister, who is the chancellors of the universities, is delaying appointments of officials, but Prime Minister is yet to comment in the issue.

Students have not been able to get their credentials in absence of top officials of the universities and it is also affecting education of students as well. nepalnews.com pb Dec 30 06
