Rana stresses for reconciliation: Says detaining leaders no solution
Member of Rajparishad Standing Committee and former Chief of the Army Staff (CoAS) of the Royal Nepalese Army Sachit Shumser JB Rana has said that a political solution could not be achieved by detaining leaders of political parties. He also stressed on the need for consensus between the King and political parties to resolve present crisis.
Speaking at an interaction in the capital on Saturday, Rana said the King’s call for political parties to hold dialogue and forge consensus was guided by that view, according to newspaper reports.
He however claimed that taking action against politicians is not a difficult thing, but in politics that is not only the option.
Rana alleged that the King was the biggest democrat in the country, adding, “If the King was an autocrat, he would not have believed in the ballot.”
He further said that the King conducted municipal elections even after receiving threats from different sides.
Rana also said that the King could give up the post of chairman of the council of ministers if political parties were ready to forge an understanding with the King.
He urged the seven agitating political parties to break their proximity with the rebels and added parties should make Maoists to lay down their weapons.
Rana was of the view that the international community has gradually accepted the King’s agenda but some foreigners have been attacking the monarchy, using Nepal.
“If the Maoists are ready to join the mainstream, they should shun politics of violence clearing the way of removing the terrorist tag,” he said, adding, “Otherwise it will be impossible to hold dialogue with terrorists”. nepalnews.com pb Feb 26 06
