Cold wave claims 11 lives
11 persons died across the nation due to severe cold wave which gripped the country in the last few days.
According to reports, three people were died in Janakpur. An Indian pilgrim died in the Gopal dharmashala due to the cold, while one person each died at Ramananda chowk and Sigyani Madan VDC.
According to airport authorities, the cold wave and fog also affected flights as well.
Thirty five year old Balahi Devi of Bhalohiya-1, and 8 year old Asha Kumari Shah of Gaur municipality died on Saturday evening, according to reports.
The cold wave has hit children and aged people the most.
The cold wave also claimed lives of five people in Mahottari district as well.
The dead have been identified as 70 year old Okila Khanun, 71 year old Kapildev Mandal of Matihini village development committee (VDC), Sanadiya Devi and Jagdev Mahato of Dhirapur VDC and 70 year old mother of Mahendra Mandal of Jaleshwor municipality-10.
A pneumonia epidemic too has gripped Mahottari as a result of the cold wave. There is a surge of pneumonia patients at the district hospital, health posts and sub health post in Jaleshwor.
An old woman died due to cold wave in Birgunj. Her identity, however, could not be ascertained, the district police office said.
According to reports from Sarlahi, even the birds were hit hard by the cold wave. “Even the bird have been affected due to the cold wave,” report quoted the head of the Veterinary office, Kanak Lal Shah as saying, “Also, as the grazing land is frost-laden, the cattle too have caught cold.”
Visibility has also been hampered due to the fog, reports said. .
