NUTA demands to sack stir suppressor

In a bid to pressurize the government to fulfill its demands, the Nepal University Teachers’ Association (NUTA) has decided to organize a 24-hour relay hunger strike for the next seven days.

NUTA has submitted its three point demands, namely, termination of all officials involved in suppressing the Janandolan, changing the name of Mahendra Sanskrit University into the Nepal Sanskrit University and the PM be made its chancellor, according to newspaper reports.

Currently the King is the chancellor the University. The move comes at a time when the parliament has deprived the King of his prerogatives.

The relay hunger strike, led by NUTA president Professor Dr Bhupati Dhakal “Kamal” started from 8 a.m. at the NUTA central office, Ghantaghar on Monday.

Chairman of the Democratic Teachers’ Association, Prof Dr Hari Prasad Gautam; chairman of the MSU Teachers’ Association, Dr Ram Prasad Ghimire; president KU Teachers’ Association, Prof Kartikeya Jha, Mahendra Bhusan Thapa and Basudev Acharya were among the protestors.

Students and officials of the Mahendra Sanskrit University have been organizing various protest programmes demanding resignation of all the office bearers appointed by the erstwhile royal government. nepalnews.com pb July 25 06
