41 Nepalis homebound from Lebanon

Amidst fears of safety of Nepalis living in Lebanon as Israel mounts its missile attacks, 41 Nepalis rescued along with hundreds of Indians arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday.

State-run Radio Nepal quoting Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister KP Sharma Oli said 41 rescued Nepalis were arriving in Kathmandu via New Delhi shortly and that efforts were underway to rescue more Nepalis from Lebanon.

Oli informed that the Nepali Embassy in Egypt’s Cairo and the Nepali consulate office in Beirut have been informed about the 12 Lebanon-based Nepalis who want to return home. The International Migration Organisation (IMO) has also been supporting the government in its efforts to rescue more Nepalis from the war-ravaged country, he said.

There are no reports casualties of Nepali nationals in Israeli attacks on Lebanon, according to Oli.

So far, five Nepalis rescued from Lebanon have arrived in Kathmandu. There are around 4000 Nepalis in Lebanon, according to government estimates. nepalnews.com mk July 25 06
