Garbage management affected in valley
The Khula Manch (open air theatre) of the capital has been converted into a dumping site after private organisations providing door-to-door garbage collection service started dumping the collected waste there after the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) failed to solve the problem at the Teku Transfer Station.
President of the Environment Conservation Initiative, Dhruba Acharya, said they were compelled to dump the waste after the dispute at the Teku Transfer Station.
The KMC has only collected five containers of the waste to take to Sisdole on Tuesday.
Reports quoted acting chief of the Environmental department of KMC Rabin Shrestha as saying that garbage remained unattained in different places of city due to lack of transfer activity.
He further said that the KMC has not been able to transport the garbage to transfer stations due to the protest of locals.
Shrestha said that talks are on with the Teku locals to end the standoff.
He informed that private sector door-to-door collectors have also been asked to stall the garbage collection for next three days. nepalnews.com pb July 27 06
