Bankers warn to pull down shutters if security situation does not improve

The Nepal Bankers’ Association (NBA) has expressed its serious concern over increasing incidents of robbery and looting at banks and financial institutions.

Issuing a press release on Wednesday, the NBA said Wednesday’s robbery and killings at Nabil Bank’s Jorpati branch has terrorised the banking sector psychologically and is affecting the daily activities.

NBA has asked the government to strengthen security measures in all banks and financial institutions.

The statement came after three people including two security guards of the Jorpati branch of Nabil Bank were killed when a group of looters indiscriminately opened fire on them, after they tried to resist.

Earlier a group of armed robbers had looted Rs.1.1 million cash from the Nepal Bank Limited branch office in Chhetraparti on Monday. nepalnews.com pb June 01 06
