Part-time college teachers continue protest; 66 arrested

Demanding permanent status, part-time teachers of the Tribhuvan University continued their protests for the 3rd consecutive day in front of Singha Durbar, Kathmandu, on Thursday.

Police broke up the sit-in program organised by the Tribhuvan University Part-time Teachers’ Association (TUPTA) in front of the southern gate of Singha Durbar in the afternoon and arrested 66 protesters.

The part-time teachers have demanded that the reconvened parliament order the government to give permanent status to part-timers teaching for more than one year.

The arrested teachers have been kept at Mehendra Police Club. 155 part-time teachers were arrested from a sit-in at the same place on Wednesday but all of them were freed in the evening.

There are 1900 part-time teachers working in various public campuses around the country. The Association has been carrying out protests demanding permanent status to the part-time teachers since last four years. nepalnews.com mk June 08 06
