Part-time college teachers continue stir; 300 arrested

Demanding that the government grant them permanent status, part-time teachers of the Tribhuvan University continued their protests for the 5th consecutive day in front of Singha Durbar, Kathmandu, on Saturday.

Police intervened into the sit-in program organised by the Tribhuvan University Part-time Teachers’ Association (TUPTA) in front of Singha Durbar in the afternoon and took under control some 300 protesting part-time teachers.

The part-time teachers have demanded that the reconvened parliament order the government to give permanent status to part-timers who have been teaching for more than one year.

The arrested teachers have been kept at the Mehendra Police Club. Dozens of part-time college teachers were arrested from a sit-in at the same place in the last three days. All of them were freed in the evening.
