Conflict claims lives of over 13,000 Nepalis: Report
The decade-long insurgency has killed 13,190 people, including 446 children and 173 teachers, according to a NGO report.
A report entitled 'A Decade of Disaster' prepared by Community Study and Welfare Center details loss of lives and destruction of infrastructure during the armed conflict between 1996 and 2005.
According to the study, the conflict escalated following the mobilisation of the army for curbing the armed rebellion and resulted in the death of 12,346 people.
Over 3,850 attacks and counter-attacks were launched during the period and they caused damages worth billions of rupees, the report stated.
According to the report, the reconstruction of infrastructure damaged during the conflict would cost twice as much as the loss.
