Maoist leaders meet Swedish Ambassador

Continuing their consultations, Maoist leaders on Wednesday met with Lena Sundh, ambassador and advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden, and held discussions on issues relating to conflict prevention, management and peacekeeping.

Maoist spokesperson and coordinator of the Maoist talks team Krishna Bahadur Mahara and Suresh Ale Magar met with Sundh, who arrived in Kathmandu on Monday for a six-day assessment visit.

Mahara said they shared views on conflict management. Mahara added they would try to meet all diplomatic missions stationed here. Mahara also said they would “try their best” to met American Ambassador James F Moriarty, but he was not sure whether the US ambassador would be ready to meet them.

Maoist leader Dr Baburam Bhattarai and Maoist spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara called on Indian ambassador to Nepal, Shiv Shankar Mukharjee, on Wednesday and discussed about the recent political developments in Nepal with the Indian envoy.

They also urged the government of India to release Nepali Maoist leaders currently detained in various Indian jails, including senior Maoist leaders Mohan Baidya and CP Gajurel, and also sought Indian assistance in Nepal’s peace process.

After arriving in Kathmandu on Saturday, the Maoist supreme has held discussions with senior leaders of Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), Nepal Workers and Peasants Party, Nepali Congress (Democratic) and Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Anandidevi), among others. nepalnews.com pb June 29
