Nepal Army ready to follow directives of Nepal Government: CoAS Thapa

Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) General Pyar Jung Thapa

Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) General Pyar Jung Thapa has said that the Nepali Army (NA) is committed to follow the directives of Nepal government.

A statement issued by NA's Directorate of Public Relations (DPR) said Thapa further said the NA was committed to peace-building through talks.

Thapa was addressing Staff College trainees and army officers under NA's command number 13 at a function at Shivapuri on Sunday.

Thapa also said that NA is unwaveringly committed to its "primary responsibility" of protecting "the country's sovereignty, integrity, nationalism and the nation's interests".

Thapa also said the concept of national security encompasses that of the individual as well as the nation's economic, social and political aspects, among others. "For this, it is imperative to properly develop all the instruments of national power and use them effectively," he said.

He also stressed the basic duty of the army was to uphold "the nation's and the people's interest" and stressed that NA, as the chief security agency in the country, 'was and will always be ready' to ably face any security challenges for ushering lasting peace in the country. nepalnews.com pb May 29 06
