Nepalis in Germany and Russia briefed on the ongoing talks

Various leaders have brief the Nepali Diaspora in Germany and Russia on the ongoing peace talks and the demands put forth by the Non Resident Nepalis (NRN).

According to NRN-Germany, in an interaction held there recently, Generally Secretary of the Nepali Congress Ram Chandra Poudel said that the government is working to issue identity cards to NRNs, so that it would help them to buy and sell their properties and travel frequently to Nepal. "By doing so, it would also help Ex-Gorkhas, who served in British army to secure their properties in Nepal," he added.

Poudel also said his party is positive on providing dual citizenship to the NRNs as per their demands. He then briefed the NRNs on the progress made in the peace talks in Nepal.

President of NRNA Germany Dil Gurung expressed his hopes that ongoing peace talks would finally bring everlasting peace in Nepal. He stressed that the conflict has to be resolved with meaningful dialogue and not by weapons.

Nepalese ambassador to Germany Dr. Madan Kumar Bhattari was also present at the programme.

Similarly, reports from Russia said, Speaker Subash Nemwang, addressing an interaction programme of the NRNs, said the government and the seven parties are committed to holding the election to the constituent assembly polls without which the mandate given by the people movement in April would remain incomplete.

Nemwang said as most of the powers of the king has been cut off after the reinstatement of the House of Representatives, there is no possibility of dismissing the CA polls like it was done during the reign of King Tribhuvan.

He said the ongoing peace talks between the government and the Maoists is the only the best way to address the people's interest for overall transformation in political, social and economical systems of the country.

Stating that Nemwang's Russia visit has strengthened relation of the Nepali Diaspora with Nepal, vice president of Nepal-Russia Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jiwa Lamichhane invited Nemwang for a formal visit to Russia. nepalnews.com ia Nov 01 06
