Nepal says UML won't stay in the government by bearing insult
The general secretary of the Unified Marxist Leninist (UML) Madhav Kumar Nepal has said that although his party values the unity of seven parties, it will have to give second thoughts about staying in the government if the party continues to be insulted.
Addressing a program organized by Sherpa Association in the capital on Wednesday, Nepal said the UML might not be a part of interim government if it is not offered powerful ministries.
Nepal said the UML could help to make the elections to Constituent Assembly successful even by remaining outside the government.
The UML leader has been voicing discontentment after the other parties of the Seven Party Alliance (SPA) and the Maoists did not agree to their demands of deciding the fate of monarchy through referendum and of holding CA elections based on Proportional Representation (PR) system. In these both points, the UML has written down Note of Dissent in the November 8 agreement.
Furthermore, the UML leadership has been miffed after the Prime Minister reportedly threatened that he would go ahead and sign the agreement with Maoist chairman Prachanda if the UML did not agree to their positions. nepalnews.com sd Nov 16 06
