Metro police comes into operation
The newly established Metropolitan Police (MP) of Nepal Police began its operation from Friday.
The new police force would be operating in three districts of Kathmandu valley; Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) at the Valley Police Office, Deepak Thangden, is the chief of the new police body.
Thimi, Chapa Gaon, Kalimati, Thamel, Baneshor, Maharajgunj, Boudha are some of the stations from where the MP would begin its initial operation.
Speaking at a function organised at the Rani Pokhari police post, which is also the head office for the MP, on Friday, Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula said the concept of metro police has been brought to curb the growing security challenges in the urban areas.
Around 7,000 Nepal Police personnel have already received training to join this new body.
The new police body would be using motorbikes now for mobilization of personnel since vehicles are not immediately available.
