No objection if party leaders face action legally: Rabindra Nath Sharma
Chairman of the breakaway Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) today said the party would have no problem with any legal action against party leaders, who worked as key functionaries during King Gyanendra’s direct rule, on the basis of the Rayamajhi commission’s report.
Talking to Nepalnews, Sharma said, “First of all, let the details of the probe report become public officially. The party has no problem if any leader is subjected to punishment under the laws.”
“If proper legal procedure is not maintained while taking action it will only be considered a political vendetta,” he said, refusing to comment on the probe report.
The report of the High Level Probe Commission headed by former Supreme Court judge Krishna Jung Rayamajhi has recommended action to 202 people, including then Home Minister Kamal Thapa and several other leaders of the RPP faction led by Sharma, for massive human rights abuses and misuse of state funds during the April movement.
Last month, Sharma took over the chairmanship of RPP faction, which was earlier led by Kamal Thapa.
His party’s regional meeting held in Biratnagar on Wednesday and Thursday has hailed the signing of peace accord between the government and the Maoists, Sharma said.
“Now the focus should be on implementing the agreement and minimise the differences within ruling parties. Our demand is for an environment wherein all political ideologies can exist,” said he. nepalnews.com mk Nov 24 06
