Mystery disease claims 7 lives in Solukhumbu

Seven people died of mysterious disease at Gudel village development committee of Solukhumbu district in recent days.

According to newspaper reports, of the seven, five people died in the last two days, while two on last week.

The disease, which reportedly starts with sudden high fever and loss of mental balance has killed people from infants to adults in ward numbers 2, 4 and 5.

The disease has not been diagnosed so far as there are no health workers in the village.

The local sub-health post, which is the only medical facility in the VDC, has remained padlocked for the last few weeks.

"Though the District Health Office has already been informed about the fatal illness through a local radio station, the office has not responded," locals complained.
