Load shedding to start from mid December
The Nepal electricity Authority (NEA) is introducing 9 hour long load shedding in a week from mid December, after the NEA’s bid to import 50 Megawatt electricity from India failed.
Nepal Samacharpatra Daily quoted executive Director Arjun Kumar Karki as saying that Nepal has to face load shedding as the Bihar government did not complet maintenance work for the supply of electricity to Nepal.
Speaking at an interaction in Hetauda, Karki said that the load shedding will continue till importing electricity from India and completion of the upper Tamakoshi hydropower project.
He further said that the NEA is shortly publicizing the routine for load shedding.
He also added that as per the plan of the NEA, the load shedding could be averted after six years.
NEA and Power Trading Corporation Limited made an agreement on February this year to import 50 Megawatt electricity from India and also agreed to prepare 132 KV transmission line for the supply of electricity but India is yet to initiate the maintenance of transmission line.
A source of the NEA said that despite repeated requests from NEA to initiate maintenance work as per the agreement, the Indian side did not pay attention to it.
The NEA initiated process of importing electricity from India to avert winter load shedding after the 70 Megawatt Mid Marshyangdi hydropower project could not be completed this year.
The country had faced 17 hour long load shedding in a week last winter. nepalnews.com pb Nov 26 06
