VDC office operation from India
The Narainapur village development committee (VDC) located in eastern Banke district along the Nepal-India border is being run from India since the last three years.
VDC secretary Ashok Kumar Shrivastav has shifted the office to other side of the border citing security reasons since the last three years.
All the government works at the office, which is fully functional, is being carried out from India, reports The Kathmandu Post daily.
The locals have been demanding that the office be brought back to the VDC as they are forced to go India for office work.
"We have made several requests to the concerned authorities to bring the office back, but they have not responded," complained former chairman of VDC Ajay Shrivastav.
Meanwhile, locals have accused VDC secretary Ashok Kumar of embezzlement of the allowances for widows and the elderly provided by government through the office.
Many VDC offices were shifted either to district headquarters or other secure places after Maoists started targeting such offices, saying they are operating their parallel government in local level. nepalnews.com pb Nov 27 06
