Petrol supply still not normal
Although four days have passed since the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) and suppliers reached an agreement to end the latter's strike, the supply of petroleum products has not turned to normal yet.
According to Sharad Bhandari, general secretary of Nepal Petroleum Dealers' Association, the Raxaul depot of Indian Oil Corporation began to supply petroleum only from Monday afternoon and that is why, he claimed, the supply situation was taking more time to return to normal.
He said that on Saturday and Sunday, the depot remained closed and it started providing fuel only after Mumbai headquarters of IOC instructed it to do so. Bhandari further added that NOC, too, has not provided adequate quantity of fuel to suppliers.
Since last one month the, IOC is said to have cut down supplies to NOC in what many say as a move to pressurize the latter to pay back the outstanding dues of around Rs 10 billion. This coupled with the strike launched by tankers/suppliers last week has derailed the supply situation in Kathmandu and other cities of the country. nepalnews.com sd Nov 28 06
