Bista's party merges into RJP
The Prajatantrik Nepal party headed by former minister Keshar Bista has formally merged into the Rastriya Janashakti Party (RJP) led by former prime minister Surya Bahadur Thapa.
Bista, who was agriculture minister during the royal government, said that the merger was necessitated by the change that emanated from the people's movement and with the need to strengthen the multiparty politics and sovereign state.
Meanwhile, Thapa has said that unity among like-minded political forces was necessary. "It is the need of the hour that there should be unified and organized force," he said.
Thapa said his party can cooperate with any one who concludes that February 1 royal step was wrong, who embraces the House of Representatives Declaration and who sheds extremist thoughts.
The merger has come at a time when political analysts have been predicting a swift polarization among leftist republican and rightist forces in the country in the changed context. There are also talks about floating democratic front in response to proposal for a broader republican front. nepalnews.com sd Nov 30 06
