HIV infected people call on all to join the fight against HIV/AIDS
People living with HIV have urged all to join the fight against HIV/AIDS.
Speaking at a programme organized today on the eve of the World HIV/AIDS Day, they urged all to take the problem of HIV/AIDS as the problem of society and not only the people living with it to address the problem.
Speaking at the programme, HIV infected person Sibu Giri said that only the people living with HIV could not solve the problem, so all should join hands against the deadly disease.
Stating that the prevalence of HIV/AIDS is high among youths, he urged all to pay proper attention to the issue.
Similarly, another HIV infected person Manu KC said that the problem is getting complex day by day due to the negligence from civil society and policy makers.
He urged all people to assist HIV infected people rather than consoling them.
Speaking at the same programme, Ekta KC said that the achievements gained in the front of HIV/AIDS is mainly due to the continuous struggle of HIV infected people and urged all to join hands in the struggle against the disease.
According to statistics, more than 75,000 people were living with HIV/AIDS by the end of 2005 in Nepal with 5,100 deaths till date.
However government statistics show only 8,073 HIV positive people till October 31, 2006 and only 358 deaths due to the disease. According to the National Centre for AIDS and STD control, only 1,186 people were infected from AIDS till October 31,2006. nepalnews.com pb Nov 30 06
