Prachanda accuses govt of delaying peace talks
Maoist chairman Prachanda has accused the SPA government of delaying the peace talks thereby giving chance to regressive forces and foreign powers to play into Nepal's politics.
Addressing a training programme for district level Maoist leaders' at Jalbire of Sindhupalchok district, Prachanda said the Maoists were preparing for a “new form of people's revolt strong enough to capture Kathmandu and the state power”. The people’s revolt will be led by local Newars, he said.
He claimed that had the April uprising not withdrawn for next five days, Nepal would have already become a republican state by now. As the seven parties failed to go for republic in April, Maoists are preparing for another revolt to achieve it, the rebel chief added.
The Maoist training programme was underway when the nation was observing the Dashain festival.
Prachanda also claimed that foreign powers had been trying to disrupt the peace process and send the Maoists back to jungle. He, however, reiterated that the Maoists would opt for a peaceful movement than to return to jungle for armed rebellion.
“The government is not serious about talks,” he said.
Prachanda returned to capital on Tuesday by a Pajero. Along with several other Maoist leaders and cadres, Prachanda did not put Dashain Tika. His father had earlier said that he look forward to celebrate Dashain festival Prachanda and his wife Sita, after years of separation.
Prachanda had earlier said the Maoists had nothing against the cultural aspect of the festival but rejected the religious side of it. nepalnews.com ia Oct 03 06
