RPP leaders come down hard against government
Leaders of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) have roundly deplored the government terming it as totally ineffective.
Addressing a function held to mark the 13th day of the death of its parliamentarian Krishna Charan Shrestha, senior RPP leader and former prime minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand termed the government as being impotent.
"An MP has been killed in a broad daylight and the government has failed to take action against the culprits. What can we call this government except totally ineffective?" asked Chand.
Deepak Bohara, general secretary of the RPP, said it is farcical for the government to boast about its success when it could not identify the killers of an MP.
Shrestha was killed on September 23. An MP of RPP representing Siraha's number 3 constituency, Shrestha was shot to death by armed gunmen as he was walking in the morning in Belha VDC of Siraha district.
Subsequently, Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (JTMM) –a splinter faction of the Maoists in Terai region – owned up responsibility for his killing.
A local resident Rambriksha Mukhiya too died of gunshots along with Shrestha. Immediately after the incident, the villagers had captured two gunmen and beat them to death. According to JTMM president Jaikrishna Goit, the two gunmen killed by the villagers were Rudal Mahato, Siraha commander of JTMM, and Bihari Mahato, Siraha coordinator.
"We took action (against Shrestha) for economic and other oppression," Goit told media after his assassination.
Since Shrestha's killing, RPP president Pashupati SJB Rana has been demanding immediate resignation of Home Minister Krishna Sitaula. nepalnews.com sd Oct 05 06
