Chokhyal stresses the need of UN tribunals for peace and justice

Member of Parliament Tek Bahadur Chokhal has said the UN Security Council should establish Tribunals to bring peace and justice to those victims of indiscriminate murder and extermination as crimes against humanity, a statement issued by permanent mission of Nepal to the UN said.

Member of Nepalese delegation to the ongoing UN session in New York, Chokhyal said in his deliberations on the reports of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) on Monday that peace, justice and the rule of law are extremely linked and the principal goals for humanity. He stressed that the Tribunals should scrutinize their practices and procedures in search of ways to ensure that they fulfill their mandates in the time frame of the completion strategy.

Chokhal further said that Nepal believed in the principle of no impunity for the most serious crimes of concern to international community.

Another member of the delegation Anil Kumar Jha, speaking at the Fifth Committee of the sixty-first session of the UN General Assembly on scale of assessments to member States, said that Nepal attaches high importance to issues on the improvement of financial situation of the United Nations and scale of assessments for the apportionment of the expenses.
