UN team meets PM, discusses peace process
The experts from the United Nations have held discussion with Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala to access the latest progress made in the peace process here.
The meeting was held at the prime minister's residence in Baluwatar for around half an hour from 8 a.m. today.
Source at Baluwatar said the discussion focused on issues like progress made on talks with the Maoists and arms management of the armies to ensure safe and fair polls for the constituent assembly.
The UN experts asked the prime minister about the ongoing talks with the Maoists, progress of the talks and preparation for constituent assembly election.
Koirala, on the occasion expressed the government's commitment to the restoration of peace in the country.
All four members of the UN team – the personal representatives of the UN Secretary General Ian Martin, political advisor Tamrat Samual, arms expert Jan Erick Wilhemson and election monitoring expert Ecaterina Salvu – were present on the occasion.
Wilhemson and Salvu arrived Kathmandu on Tuesday while Tamrat arrived on Monday to facilitate peace process in Nepal. The ceasefire monitoring expert John Bevan is scheduled to arrive on Friday. nepalnews.com ia Oct 11 06
