Jana Morcha splits into three

Continuing the tradition of frequent splits in Nepalese communist parties, the Jana Morcha (People's Front, Nepal) has broken into three separate factions.

Citing ideological differences, PF's vice president Pari Thapa called a special conference on Wednesday in the capital – leading to the formal split of the party into three factions.

The PF now is clearly divided into three camps – the one led by deputy prime minister Amik Sherchan; the one led by Chitra Bahadur KC; and now the third one led by Pari Thapa. KC faction had separated on the issue of PF joining the government.

And now Pari Thapa's faction has accused the leadership of indifference towards resolving organizational disputes; lack of attention towards organizational reforms; and lack of attempts to maintain unity in the party. Sherchan's faction has already termed the special conference as illegitimate. nepalnews.com sd Oct 12 06
