Prabhu Narayan Chaudhary, Minister for Land Reforms and Management, has resigned as the chairman of Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist).
Accusing him of deviating from party's principles, workers and colleagues of his party forced Chaudhary to step down. The entire politburo of the CPN (UM) was later dissolved after cadres and colleagues surrounded Minister Chaudhary at the party office on Saturday.
Earlier, noted leftist leader and general secretary of CPN (UM) Bishnu Bahadur Manandhar had resigned from the position of general secretary of the party. He claimed that Chaudhary was sticking to his ministerial position even though the government was increasingly becoming 'anti-people.' He was particularly apprehensive about the government's decision to introduce new laws about royal succession even when the people wanted republic. He criticized Chaudhary for not being able to aggressively put forth party's opinion in the government.
The CPN (UM) is a key constituent of Unified Leftist Front (ULF) – which, in turn, is a member of Seven Party Alliance. nepalnews.com sd Oct 15 06
