FNCCI faces contempt of court
A case has been filed at the Patan Appellate Court on Wednesday against the Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI) on contempt of court.
Advocate Jyoti Baniya, who is also the general secretary of the Consumers Forum, Nepal, filed the case.
Baniya told Nepalnews that maximum punishment including six-moth jail term and Rs 5,000 fine to the FNCCI, its president Chandi Raj Dhakal and other officials has been filed for breaching the order given by the court to withdraw the nationwide strike on Tuesday,
On Monday, the court, in response to a petition filed by Baniya, had ordered the FNCCI to withdraw its Tuesday's strike stating that it would infringe upon the rights of consumers and stand against Consumer Protection Act and Essential Services Act.
However, the FNCCI ignored the court order saying it did not receive the court verdict formally.
As FNCCI refused to accept the court verdict, it was pasted on its gate presence of KMC officials on Monday.
Industrialists had agreed to withdraw the strike during the meeting with the prime minister and other ministers on Monday evening but went ahead with strike after an internal meeting of industrialists held late evening on Monday. nepalnews.com ia Oct 18 06
