Govt gives green light to 5 TV and 50 FM stations
In the wake of the successful People's Movement, the government has given permission to open five more television stations along with 50 FM radio stations.
With this decision, the country will now have 12 TV stations and 106 FM stations – all run by private sector and/or community. Of them 6 TV and 56 FM stations are operational at present.
According to the Ministry of Information and Communication, 30 more FM stations have applied for the license. The five new TV stations who have obtained license include Avenues, Sagarmatha, Newsline Pvt Ltd, National TV Network and Uplink International.
