Italian mountaineer expresses willingness to assist for social development of Nepal

An Italian Mountaineer, who has climbed 13 out of the 14 peaks over 8,000 meters, has said that he will work for the social development of Nepal after he retires from mountaineering.

Talking to Nepalnews, Silvio Mondinelli, who recently returned after climbing Mt. Lhotse said that he will work for the education of the children in the mountaineering regions and for providing health facilities to needy people, when he retires from mountaineering after completing ascents of all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters.

“While going for climbs, I saw many children of that region deprived from education and many Sherpas deprived from health facilities, so I have decided to devote my time for providing education facilities to the children and health facilities to needy people,” adds Silvio, who had contributed for the construction of highway hospital in Malekhu and school in Namchhe.

Silvio climbed Mt. Manaslu in 1992 and four peaks over 8,000 meters in the year 2001.

Silvio, who has visited Nepal more than 16 times, said that he did not feel any inconvenience in Nepal during his visit and urged all mountain loving people to enjoy the beauty of Nepal and Nepali mountains.

Sharing his experiences, he said, “Mountaineering is a sensitive job, it is full of fear but we enjoy doing so and feel exhilarated when we reached the top of the mountain.” nepalnews.com pb Oct 20 06
