UN regional disarmament office to be set up in Nepal
An Asia Pacific regional UN office for peace and disarmament is going to be set up in Nepal two decades after it was formally approved by the General Assembly.
Due to lack of agreement on implementation procedure, the office could not be set up in Nepal even though the General Assembly had decided for the same way back in 1987.
"However, although belated, the agreement on host country is now being prepared," said acting Foreign Secretary Bhagirath Basnet. He said that the UN General Assembly has asked Nepalese authorities to make necessary preparations.
As per the rule, the initial expenditure of setting up such office will have to be borne by the host country itself. nepalnews.com sd Oct 22 06
