PM Koirala confident about success of peace talks, says it takes time

Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has reiterated that he remains totally optimistic about the success of the ongoing peace process.

"I have made commitment to bring peace through the holding of free and fair Constituent Assembly elections. I am committed to fulfill this," PM Koirala told reporters on Tuesday in Biratnagar, where he had gone to receive Bhaitika from his elder sister Nalini Upadhyaya who is 91-years-old.

Koirala said the CA could be held soon after the interim government comes to power. "I want to hold it as soon as possible," he said.

Asked about the delay in reaching conclusion in the summit meetings, PM Koirala said, "Peace talks is not as easy as eating rice and dal. It will certainly take some time to resolve the conflict that took lives of thousands of people and which was going on for more than a decade."

He also reiterated that Nepal could provide 'an example' to the whole world by making the peace process successful.

PM Koirala's remarks have come at a time when both sides – the Seven Party Alliance (SPA) and the Maoists – are engaged in intense home works to make the next round of summit meeting conclusive. The meeting is expected to be held within days as the leaders had stated it would be held soon after Tihar. nepalnews.com sd Oct 25 06
