CJ Poudel condemns idea of re-appointment of judges
Chief Justice Dilip Kumar Poudel has said that some people with some vested interests are raising the issue of judges' reappointment, adding, reappointment of judges will have negative impact in democracy.
Talking to journalists at the Tribhuvan International Airport while returning from Philippines, after completing a four-day-long conference on International Forum on Liberty and Prosperity, CJ Poudel also said, "Re-appointment of judges would be an attack on the independence of the judiciary and ultimately it would affect the democratic system negatively.”
The Chief Justice's conference had discussed controlling corruption, strengthening of rule of law and ways of providing timely justice.
CJ Poudel, who also claimed that the judiciary was independent during the king's direct rule and he never involved himself in any sort of activities under pressure also added, “If there is no independence of judiciary, there will be no democracy.”
