Dhakal 'did not know' court order to stop general strike
The Patan Appellate Court has released president of Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industries Chandi Raj Dhakal on the ground that he will present himself in the court whenever required.
A division bench comprising chief judge Rana Bahadur Bam and Janardan Bahadur Khadka issued the order after hearing the case and filing the statement of Dhakal.
Dhakal recorded his statement attending the Court as per its order on October 19.
The bench observed that there was no ground to impose bail or fine on him on the charge as he presented himself in the court and stated that he has no intention to defy the court order.
The FNCCI had organized the general strike on October 17 despite the court order barring it.
Acting upon a contempt of court case filed by advocate Jyoti Baniya of Consumers' Forum, the Court on October 19 had ordered Dhakal to appear in person to record his statement why he and FNCCI defied the court order.
Recording his statement, Dhakal told the court that he was not informed about the court order on the same day and that was why the organisation went ahead with the strike and they had not forced anybody to take part in the general strike. nepalnews.com pb Oct 27 06
