Maoist truce set to expire; extension announcement likely
As the three-month ceasefire announced by the Maoists is set to expire on Sunday (October 29), the Maoist chairman Prachanda is likely to make another announcement of its extension soon.
Since the peace talks are moving ahead towards settlement, the Maoist chairman is likely to extend the ceasefire again. An announcement to this effect is expected on Saturday itself. After the success of April movement, the Maoists have already announced three-monthly ceasefires twice.
In latest ceasefire announcement on July 28, Maoist chairman Prachanda had warned that despite ceasefire his party would engage in strong urban protest programs if the government does not abide by eight-point pact.
At that time he had also raised serious objection at the way the government was 'hurting the aspirations of the people by paying heed to arbitrary advice from foreign powers.' nepalnews.com sd Oct 28 06
