Junior health workers call-off their protest

The junior health workers under the health ministry called off their three-month long strike following an agreement between the Ministry and junior staffs for fulfilling their demands.

An agreement was reached between the Ministry and junior staffs of health ministry, who were protesting for past three months, demanding fulfillment of their demands that includes promotion, skill development training and special allowance for working in hazardous conditions among others.

There are about 26,000 junior-rank health workers under the government.

The strike had disrupted services in Primary Health Centers, Health Posts, District Public Health Offices and District Hospitals across the country. However, central and zonal hospitals remained functioning.

Deputy Prime Minister, Amil Sherchan

Deputy Prime Minister, Amil Sherchan, who also holds the health portfolio broke the relay hunger strike staged by junior staffs under the Health Ministry in Maitighar Mandal for the past few days by serving juice to them, Monday.

On the occasion, DPM Sherchan informed that the Council of Minister brought about amendments in the Health Service Act-2053 keeping with the demands of protesting junior employees of the health ministry and assured that the bill would be presented in the House of Representatives soon.
