Army can be mobilised for CA: Nepal
The general secretary of Unified Marxist Leninist (UML) Madhav Kumar Nepal has said that if the number of police personnel is inadequate to provide security for the coming Constituent Assembly (CA) polls, the Nepali Army (NA) can be mobilised upon understanding among eight parties.
Speaking at a programme organised by civil service employees union in Nepalgunj on Friday, Nepal said, "If there is understanding among eight parties, NA can be used for providing security in the CA elections."
"Nepal Police and Armed Police will be inadequate, the NA is in barracks," he said, adding that eight parties can take a decision in this regard, if need be.
He also said recruiting temporary policemen would be inappropriate given their controversial past.
According to him, there are 25,000 APF and 45,000 Nepal Police personnel that can be used for the security of polls. But the number, he said, is short by additional 70,000 security personnel.
Nepal also hinted at the possibility of using ex-army and police personnel. He said the CA elections must be held on time. nepalnews.com sd Apr 07 07
