Maoists padlock offices of The Himalayan Times and Annapurna Post dailies
Maoist-affiliated trade union (All Nepal Communication, Press and Publication Workers Association) padlocked the offices of Himalayan Times and Annapurna Post, disrupting the office work for about one-and-a-half hours on Friday.
According to The Himalayan Times daily, they resorted to this drastic step when three staffers of Sama Printers, which prints the two dailies, were transferred to the head office.
The three staffers were being evaluated for promotion and were meant to undergo training before a decision was taken on promoting one or more of them. This was explained to the Maoist activists who had invaded the offices of the two dailies in Anam Nagar. Thereafter, the Maoist union withdrew its action on the intervention of senior leaders, Dr Baburam Bhattarai and Krishna Bahadur Mahara, the daily added.
A police team, which reached the THT, AP offices, unlocked the gates even before the union agreed to withdraw its action. nepalnews.com pb Apr 07 07
