Govt calls NFIN for talks on May 5

The government talks team has sent a formal letter inviting Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NFIN) for talks on May 5.

The meeting of the government talks team – led by Peace and Reconstruction Minister Ram Chandra Poudel and including two members Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, State Minister for Water Resources and Ram Chandra Raya, State Minister for General Administration – held at the Peace Ministry's office in Singha Durbar, on Friday, decided to respond to NFIN's request to fix the date for the talks.

"We have called them for talks on May 5 at this very office," Poudel told reporters.

Likewise, the meeting also decided to request the Chure Bhawar Ekata Samaj to come for talks. The Samaj has been imposing indefinite strike since April 23 demanding autonomous Chure Bhawar region. Their strike has affected sections of East West highway, particularly covering Sarlahi, Rautahat, Siraha and Udayapur districts.

The meeting also termed the formation of talks team by Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) led by its president Upendra Yadav as positive. The government talks team members have said that they are in informal contact with MJF as well as two factions of Janatantrik Terai Mukti Morcha (JTMM) with whom also they want to hold talks. nepalnews.com sd Apr 27 07
