“Leadership by turns” in local bodies
Even after holding repeated round of meetings, and with the eight parties failing to reach an understanding on who gets to lead the local bodies, the Ministry of Local Development has proposed ‘leadership by turns’ of all the parties in the local bodies.
The Ministry’s secretary Ram Kumar Shrestha said the option of giving the leadership by turns was put forward after there was disagreement in the previous proposal tabled by the ministry in which it has suggested that representatives would be appointed in the local bodies on the agreement of the eight parties.
Shrestha, who had come to participate in the inauguration of the general assembly of District Development Committee (DDC) and municipality chief of western and Midwestern districts, told reporters, “If our earlier proposal fails, then the nominee of all parties would get the opportunity to hold responsible posts like DDC chairman and Mayor. Their tenure would also be fixed as per the agreement between the eight parties.” nepalnews.com ag Aug 05 07
