Communist Party of Nepal-United Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal has said that the Maoists had tabled the proposal of republic through the interim parliament itself because it "fears that the people might not favour it during the constituent assembly election", reports Kantipur daily.

Speaking to reporters at the Gautam Buddha Airport in Bhairahawa Monday, general secretary Nepal said no political party should do anything to disrupt the constituent assembly election.

"Left unity can be explored if the Maoists show willingness by improving their conduct," Nepal said.

He also added that unity and cooperation among the eight parties was important not only till the time of general election but also till the parliamentary elections are not carried out.

General Secretary Nepal who reached Butwal the same day to inaugurate a CA election training programme said CPN-UML will mobilise its cadres under People's Volunteers (PV) wing for "security during the constituent assembly (CA) election"

"We will deploy People's Volunteers for security during CA polls," Nepal said Monday

"CPN-UML will reach its voters with the party's plans and programmes through these organisations," Nepal added. nepalnews.com ag Aug 07 07
